Other Events
Other cool things going on in and around the MarsCon Dementia Track you should know about include…
FLAT 29 PODCAST RECORDING!
Since 2009, our music Guests Of Honor Flat 29 have been doing a podcast called “Big Book Of Everything” in which they’d talk about a specific topic, and create a new song on that topic, and also do quizzes, challenges, and generally just goof around riffing on whatever comes to mind. More recently, they started a companion sketch comedy podcast called “Fistbumpin’”, where they do sketches based on the previous “Big Book Of Everything” topic. Well at MarsCon, the lads are going to record some segments for future episodes of their podcasts, so you can come be in the live studio audience! So bring your Peri Peri Sauce, and get ready for some British accented fun! It’s happening on Saturday at Noon in the Fuji Room on the 2nd floor.
DEMENTIA WATER AEROBICS with KORNFLAKE!
Former radio host of “Coffee And Cartoons”, current co-host of “The Flopcast”, and 2012 Logan Awards juror the always effervescent ‘Kornflake’ wants to add to the geek fitness events happening at MarsCon this year by leading 2 different one-hour sessions of water aerobics, doing workouts set to some of the best comedy music of 2012 and beyond! She’s a certified instructor, and these sessions will be done at a beginners/intermediate level. It’s happening Saturday at 9:00 am & Sunday at 10:00 am. Everyone needs to meet at the door to the pool on the 2nd floor FIVE MINUTES BEFORE THE HOUR, so you can all enter together (if you’re late, you might be locked out if you don’t have a room key). So get up, get wet, get fit, and get wacky with Kornflake!
TABLE 27: the official merch table of the MarsCon Dementia Track!
Bring cash. Bring lots of cash. It might take you a while to sift through the over seven dozen albums for sale by the performers of MarsCon, muttering to yourself “got it, need it, need it, got it, got it, need it, got it”, but it’ll be worth the effort when you walk away from the table with your fingers spread wide to hold your digitally encoded comedy music bounty. No wonder MarsCon has become THE place where every act wants to drop their new album. Table 27 is located, as always, just outside the doors of the main stage room where all the performances are happening, and will be open during the main stage Dementia Track concerts.
SPACE ODDITY MUSIC CLUB & BREW PUB!
Once again, Beth Kinderman and her filky friends bring you three nights of geeky fun at MarsCon, featuring music circles, snacks and drinks, and board and card games in a comfortable, laid-back space. They’ll be open from 7 pm until ‘late’, and they’ll have a P.A. system there, so if any of the filk, dementia, or nerdcore acts want to come in and plug in their backing track devices, you can do a spontaneous show! Please drop by to sing a song, share a pint, learn a game, or chat with your friends! For more details and to donate to help make the party happen, visit their Facebook page and their Indie Gogo fundraiser page.
DEMENTIA SMACKDOWN WRESTLING!
Every year Dementia Radio DJ and pro wrestling fan Jered Perez uses the latest WWE video games to create avatars of all of the acts appearing at the MarsCon Dementia Track. Then he records them fighting against one another in a 30 minute Battle Royal to see who will be crowned the champion of “Dementia Smackdown Wrestling”! So come root for your favorite act, and witness the virtual violence and senseless slaughter for silly supremacy! Featuring live commentary by DSW commentators Commissioner J.P. Tuesday (Jered Perez) and Duke ‘Flyboy’ DuJour (Luke Ski). Snap into it! Oooh yeah!
The one and only DJ Particle will host this event that puts YOU in the spotlight! It’ll be your chance to get up in front of the crowd and show your demented stuff! Are you an up and coming dementia artist with some songs to sing? Are you a Karaoke fanatic who loves to sing your favorite funny tunes? Do you and your friends want to do a lip-sync to the latest demented hit? Then this is the show for you! If you’d like to sign up, just show up and bring any background music you need to perform with either on CD or in MP3 format on a Flash Drive. We’ll put your name in a hat along with our other participants, and we’ll pull names out at random to determine the order of our first rotation. Once we’ve gotten through the first rotation, we’ll go through it again giving people who want to more chances to perform. So bring your talent and creativity and be a Dementia Star!
THE FuMP JUKEBOX!
In the history of the MarsCon Dementia Track, we’ve had well over 42 different comedy music acts perform, and unfortunately there just isn’t enough Main Stage time to give everybody a 30 minute main stage concert every year. That’s why I added to the schedule a show called the FuMP JUKEBOX, in which some of our returning regulars and new faces from the FuMP & the FuMP Sideshow who didn’t get main stage concerts this year will have a chance to get up on stage and do one of their songs for the awesome MarsCon audience. This year, our performers will be CARRIE DAHLBY, DJ PARTICLE, BETH KINDERMAN, DAVE STAGNER of the Feng Shui Ninjas, JEFF REUBEN, & BRETT GLASS!
THE DEMENTIA SMACKDOWN!
Our traditional ending to the best weekend ever for fans of comedy music, the Dementia Smackdown will once again feature almost all of our weekend’s performers coming back to the stage one last time to perform cover versions of well known comedy songs, both by established legends, and by each other. The only word to describe it is ‘legenda-epic-awesome-ary’!
